The 2+2 sports car which is available in a coupe or convertible form receives power from an all new 5.0 liter AJ-V8 Den 3 V8 with direct injection, which replaces the 4.2 liter unit. Engines in the standard XK and XK Portfolio are normally aspirated units which can produce 385HP and 515Nm of torque, while the XKR receives a supercharged version which is able to kick out 510HP and 625Nm of torque. 0 to 100 km/h sprint times are 5.2 seconds for the standard as well as for the XK Portfolio while the XKR achieves 4.6 seconds. Top speed for all models are governed at 250 km/h.

Both engines are mated to a maintenance-free 6 speed ZF 6HP28 transmission with fully adaptive shift which can be operated via wheel mounted shift paddles through Jaguar’s Sequential Shift or via a fully automatic JaguarDrive Selector mode. The XKR models features additional clutch plates and an up rated torque converter. The XKR also comes with a new electronically controlled differential with Active Differential Control (ADC).

The 4.2L normally aspirated brought in with the facelift in late '02 is 6.4 to 60mph also maxing out at 155, where it is limited.
