One can only hope, considering that most of the 9-3 derivatives this reporter has been subjected to have been intent on providing an unlimited supply of front-drive torque steer, with MSRP’s that throw in all-wheel drive on other makes as a general courtesy. What kind of aftermarket exhausts are out there for a 2005 Saab 9-3 Linear?

I have a 2005 Saab 9-3 and am looking for some fun aftermarket parts to increase the performance but am finding it is harder than expected. Does Borla, Flowmaster, etc. have exhausts for a 05' Saab 9-3?

How do I change the bulbs in the HVAC panel of a 2004 Saab 9-3 Linear?

I just bought a 2004 Saab 9-3 Linear (4 Door) for my fiancee and it looks like one of the bulbs behind the HVAC is burned out. At night the bottom left hand side (the area around the temp knob) is not lit, and it's rather annoying. Autozone couldn't tell me which bulb to buy or how to get behind the panel to access the dead bulb. Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to get back there?
Also - I would like to do the work myself and not involve the dealer if possible. Thanks!


Take your left hand and gently grip the temp knob and pull so that the side of the MCC panel dislodges itself slighty. Using a hook tool, insert the hook behind the face of the unit and pull it towards you. Pull it just enough so that you can now firmly grab the unit with your fingers. Do the same to the other side. Pull the entire unit out of its perch. Note: There are no screws holding this unit in. When the 2 connectors are visible, use a small screwdriver inserted at the small slot between the red connector and the body of the unit. Open the connector until you hear or feel a detent click. This is as far you will have to go to disengage the connector from the unit.
Installation is the reverse of the above. If you look closely you will see three black bulb sockets. Twist the sockets counterclockwise and remove the affected one. Go to your SAAB dealer and have them give you the correct bulb. I believe it is a 5 watt bulb. Note, if the headlamp switch is not in the extreme left position, the MCC panel will not illuminate.

How much does it cost to upgrade OnStar in a 2002 Saab 9-3?

I'm thinking about getting a 2002 Saab 9-3 SE and just found out the systems needs to be upgraded to digital. How much does it cost? Is it worth it? How long does the installation cost?

I called OnStar with the exact same question a few months ago, and their response was basically, "Sorry, we are no longer supporting the OnStar system that your car uses... we would be happy to provide OnStar support for you with a newer vehicle. OnStar has no plans at this time to convert the analog systems to digital."

My guess is that if there was a replacement system somewhere, I doubt that it would be worth the cost. Installation would be fairly simple, I'm guessing, since all they would have to do is rip out the old Onstar ECU and put in a new one.... since my onstar died, I decided to just remove the entire unit. Not very difficult to do.
