Volkswagen; China VW Beetle Ads; Old vs. New.

“The New Beetle: A Timeless Classic.”
Volkswagen Beetle’s China campaign; gotta say, “new” certainly does have it’s appeal. However, unlike most of the VW Beetle ads I’ve seen this one seems to forgo the iconic beetle silhouette blended into the environment for the almost tacked on faded golden stamp (iconic representation? …yes. Layout logic? …no.) .

Looks nice; but will the average Chinese feel the black beetle is a classic? While culturally relevant for a Westerner, for many Chinese this ad will be the first time the classic VW is seen.

Here’s a more boring representation of the first ad shown at the beginning of the blog; pretty women get the heart racing, and I am now in the process of confirming that pretty chairs do not. The message of classic that stand’s the test of time is nice, but in China where new and different is sought after with near religious furor does “classic” sell the car?

Not quite like in the '60s, but a beetle invasion is coming - Boston Globe
01.02.09
They aren't the Liverpool Beatles, but German beetles will be welcome in the Neponset River watershed. The Neponset wetlands have been plagued by a cloud of purple loosestrife, one of "the most invasive plants found in New England," according to a University of Connecticut website devoted to integrated pest management, and the Neponset River Watershed Association is sending in beetle recruits to eat the weed. The association released its first beetle conscripts into the area last summer, according to Carly Rocklen, the group's restoration manager. The Galerucella beetle, a native of Germany that specializes in feeding on loosestrife, has been tested as a control method in this country since 1986. Once imported for its landscaping appeal, the plant has been prohibited for sale in New England, but enough is around that it is crowding out native vegetation and eliminating habitats. This spring, the association is rounding up "beetle ranchers" - property owners who are willing to raise the Galerucella and who have land that gets all-day full sun.

What year Volkswagen beetle in the new commercials....?
Jun 01, 2008 by Rhythm | Posted in Volkswagen
What year is the OLD volkswagen beetle that is being used in the new VW commercials?
1964. It says so in the article mentioned as my source. But even without stumbling across that article, I was able to narrow it down to 1964-1965.
Guys, look at the body style of the bug. It has the old-school streamlined shape of the first generation pre-1968 bugs, complete with the older style headlights, small turnsignals on top of each fender, and all-chrome bumpers complete with "cow catchers"(the chrome parts that protruded over the top of the main chrome bumper). The fact that the front hood lacks a Wolfsburg castle logo means that it has to be post-1963. So those two things alone have already narrowed down the age to 1964-1967. However, look at the bug's wheels...the styles of them are distinctly pre-1966. In 1966, the hubcaps were all chrome and had vents/slits around them, which the black bug in the commercial does not have on "his" wheels. So it had to be either 1964 or 1965. The article states that it is a fully restored 1964.

I need information on the volkswagen new beetle and the new beetle convertable before buying it?
Apr 16, 2007 by cmccarthy33 | Posted in Volkswagen
In two years, for my seventeenth birthday, i am going to be paying for half of my car and i need as much information on the beetle and beetle convertable as i can get. i already decided that i want the volkswagen beetle for the looks, gas mileage, and to just have a fun car, but i still want to get all the pros and cons of it. i have been doing a lot of research on it, but the research is different than actual life experience, and that is where i need the help. i want to know everything that anyone can tell me about it. i do also want to know if there is a better car to have as your first car between the beetle and the convertable. i also know that there is an option of a manual or semi maunal top for the convertable and wanted to know how practical they were. i am working on a small budget, so as much as i would like to add a bunch of accessories to the car, i probably will not be able to, so i just want to know about the regular car itself. thank you all sooo much for your help!
In my experience, Volkswagen Beetles are amazing cars!! So far I have had two. A 2001 Beetle, that never failed me! I never had a single problem with my bug. In just 8 months I put over 20,000 miles on it! ( I love to drive!) I kept up with getting my oil changes and regular maintenance. I now have a 2007 Volkswagen beetle convertible, also a great car! I now have around 7,000 miles on it, and have yet to have a problem with it. I am about to drive in (in a couple weeks) to Chicago which is about 1,000 miles from where I live and I know my beetle will not have any problems! Beetles are very reliable and affordable cars! not to mention CUTE! On my convertible I have the automatic top, it works great. Beetles are very very safe cars, so they are great for a first car or a inexperienced driver! Good luck searching for the perfect bug for you! I hope you'll love yours as much I have loved both of mine! As long as I'm driving, I can honestly say I will drive a beetle until it becomes to small of a car, then I will continue driving Volkswagens! Enjoy your Beetle!

how much does it cost to produce a volkswagen new beetle?
Oct 13, 2007 by Avi J | Posted in Volkswagen
Does anyone know or have an estimate the variable/fix costs to produce a Volkswagen New Beetle in 1998 or any year for that matter? How much was it sold for when it first came out?
If this information is not available, what's the usual margin that small-cars usually have?
if a car is for sale at MSRP $20,000 the company NOT the dealer makes roughly $5,000 on each car. varies on makes and model
