Unstoppable Success: 10 Years Of The BMW X5

Jan 13, 2009
With unparalleled dynamic performance on the road and outstanding traction on rough terrain, the BMW X5 has been on an unstoppable course for success for ten years. BMW presented the first generation of the all-wheel-drive five-door vehicle at the North American International Auto Show in 1999, thereby founding the segment of the Sports Activity Vehicle(R) (SAV). The world premiere marked the start of an unprecedented success story. Within a decade, over 845,000 units of the BMW X5 have been sold. As a result of the consistent ongoing development of the SAV(R) concept, there are now three BMW X models to choose from, with a fourth ready to start production later in 2009. In creating a segment, the BMW X5 became the key inspiration for an entire competitive field of all-wheel-drive vehicles. In its anniversary year, now in its second generation, the BMW X5 remains the role model and benchmark of its class in terms of driving dynamics, efficiency, versatility, premium quality and safety.

how to replace the alternator on a BMW X5?
May 03, 2007 by Chato | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I have a 2003 BMW X5 and the alternator seems to be the problem. I already changed the battery twice (thinking it was a battery problem), but yesterday, the battery started draining again. Others had told me that it could be the alternator. I've priced the alternators and I would rather do the work myself, but I don't know how difficult this task might be. Any thoughts?
why don't you take it to your bmw service center so they can hook it up to the computer and check where the problem is, and it up to you if you want them to fix the problem or take it somewhere else, atleast you will check out all options before doing anything.

IS it hard to remove xenon headlights from BMW x5 and put aftermarket ones?
Oct 01, 2008 by Artur S | Posted in BMW
I have BMW x5 3.0i 2002 with xenon headlights, but i got other one with seperate ballast and new headlights. Any ideas how to install it? Please details.
My advice: don't.
If you already have an x5 with original factory fit Xenon headlights, that's the way to leave it. Xenon headlights are a lot more fiddly to install than the old fashioned kind. They can be dangerous to handle, and contain high voltage capacitors that could shock you.
At the end of the day, the odds of you being able to switch out the lights, and do a better job than the factory is pretty slim. Especially as you apparently don't even know where to start.
When you eventually trade your car, its value will be determined by the mileage, vehicle history, condition, and whether or not you have been messing with it. No one wants to buy a car that some enthusiastic amateur has been playing with. People are looking for a good clean vehicle in as close to original condition as possible.

Can a Craftsman garage opener be compatible with a BMW X5 Universal Remote System?
Mar 06, 2008 by Sal P | Posted in BMW
I tried 2 options from the manual to get the Universal Remote System on my BMW X5 to work with my Craftsman garage opener unit but it's not working. Am I too far from the unit? What should be distance from the car to the unit?
BMW homelink system should work with most garage openers. If the BMW instructions don't work, bring it to the dealer.
I believe you need to hold the door opener right next to the BMW homelink unit when programming.
