I did this in the 2009 Lexus LX 570, and a curious thing happened. The optional Pre-Collision System ($2,850) kicked in because it sensed emergency braking, and the seat belt sucked me closer to the driver’s seat, preparing me for a potential collision. The seat belt did not release immediately. It waited a good 10 to 20 seconds, then it let go, releasing me back into my normal position like a sigh.

While I hope that I never have to witness these safety measures in actual emergency conditions, it’s nice to see how they work.

The eight-passenger LX 570 test vehicle had a base price of $76,595, but then added a slew of options that took the as-tested price up to $88,660. In addition to the luxury package with the Pre-Collision System ($4,050), the tester piled on the Mark Levinson audio system ($3,300), Lexus Link ($900), wide-view front and side monitor system with park assist ($1,000) and the rear-seat entertainment system ($1,990).

Even without all these extras, the LX 570 comes pretty well equipped at a base level. Some of these standard features include: navigation, heated front seats, XM Radio and real-time traffic, Bluetooth connectivity for your cell phone, moonroof, power rear-lift gate, running boards and three-row side curtain airbags.

Everything about the car audio is stock. I want to add better quality bass. Subwoofer? What do I need to know about adding a subwoofer and better sound?

I am trying to remain thrifty, so please keep that in mind. Thanks!

Ya I would leave this one up to a pro.

Luxury cars have changed their audio format over the past decade. Instead of the radio and preamp being in one unit in the dash they are using the on-board computer as the radio and amp. Usually what you think is the radio in your dash (now-a-days) is really a command screen connected to the cars computer.
