A California woman was killed and two other people injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision in northeast Columbia.

The wreck occurred at 4:11 p.m. on Paris Road near the Quaker Oats plant when a southbound pickup truck swerved into the path of a northbound Ford Taurus, sideswiping the car and causing both vehicles to spin out of control, Columbia police said.

The driver of the Taurus, 44-year-old Janet Bakos of Sacramento, Calif., was ejected during the wreck and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, Columbia fire Battalion Chief Steve Sapp said. Bakos was wearing a seat belt, police said.

When emergency crews arrived, they found the 2008 Chevrolet truck stopped in the southbound lane and driver Michael Ladd, 42, of Harrisonville lying in the grass on the west side of the road, Sapp said. Police said Ladd, who was not wearing a seat belt, had exited the vehicle after the collision but was not ejected.

The Taurus was on the shoulder of the northbound lanes, and a passenger, 71-year-old Sadie Elliott of Columbia, had to be extricated from the car, Sapp said.

I was replacing the thermostat on my 97 ford taurus. One of my wrench's hit my positive battery terminal. Resulting in alot of sparks. Now my car will crank but won't turn over. What could possibly be the problem?

Crank="To Turn Over!" In the main Fuse/Relay Box by the Battery Check the Main Fuse & Ingnition Fuses, Check to see if you Burned Out the Starter Solenoid. Check to see if you shorted out the Fueible Link to the Alternator!

How many miles would a Ford Taurus be expected to last?

I have been looking to pay cash for a second car to use for commuting, and was seriously considering a Ford Taurus.

I looked at several in including a 98,99, and 02.

The 98 has the least miles with 69k, the 99k has 100k and the 98 has 80k. However the 99 has only been a company vehicle and has a very well maintained maintenance record.

How can I determine which, if any of these is a good buy?

The best buy is the car that is in the best mechanical condition that has the lowest price. Mileage is irrelevant. Once you get into high mileage cars, the maintenance costs will all be the same. They will all need occasional repairs, none of them any less than the other.

So buy the car that is the cheapest, that has the best maintenance record and is in the best physical condition.
