Hybrid vehicle pricing
If the world is in as much trouble as environmentalists state it is, then why do car manufacturers charge so much for a hybrid vehicle?
Regular blue collar workers can't afford the average vehicle let alone a hybrid one.
So why are they so expensive?
Here is a list of known hybrids in the world:

GM’s Advanced Hybrid Technology Delivers Up To 50-Percent Fuel Economy Increase With No Compromises in Performance, Capability DETROIT - The all-new 2009 Saturn Vue Green Line 2 Mode, the first front-wheel-drive compact SUV in the world powered by General Motors’ two-mode hybrid technology, is designed for customers who want the outstanding fuel savings of an advanced hybrid and the full power and towing capability of an SUV. The Vue Green Line 2 Mode was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show . The Vue Green Line 2 Mode will deliver an estimated 50-percent fuel economy increase over the non-hybrid V-6 Vue. It also is expected to have a driving range of more than 500 miles (800 km). In addition, the Vue Green Line 2 Mode’s 3.6L VVT V-6 engine with direct injection technology ensures there are no trade-offs between performance and fuel economy. I'm planing on going to california in a 2008 Saturn Aura Green Line Hybrid. what is Hybrid?
TOTAL TRIP MILES/ AVG MPG = total gas needed.
Both numbers available online.
Tank capacity of the car is published in the owner's manual.

I know the gas can get more milege but the crude oil may not enough in the future and the price is higher and higher.
CNG/LPG/Hydrogen stations should be more and more......
I think the Prius is the best because you get a reliable car that is easy to maintain with the best mileage.
I own a 2007 Prius and avg. 50 mpg in the summer and about 44mpg in the winter.
If you need the room and utility of an SUV, I would choose the Escape Hybrid. 3,000 tax credit (2WD) on the Escape Hybrid through the end of the year is excellent, as well.
The Mazda Tribute is the same vehicle as the Escape with a Mazda badge. The Tribute Hybrid is only available in CA.
The Malibu and Aura are not true hybrids in the sense of what Toyota and Honda (Civic) are doing.
If you look at the specs of the Malibu and the Aura, you are only going to get 2 mpg more per gallon than the 4 cylinder, but will pay over $4,000 more for the hybrid. Not worth it.
Oh and why not buy a Diesel? Because they cost much more than a hybrid and the cost of diesel fuel is 20-25% more than regular gas.
