First Glance: Let's make a deal Larger photos: Front - rear - all photos The Suzuki SX4 is one of those great undiscovered bargains of the automotive world. I'm not talking about the cheapest-car-with-navi thing -- the SX4 Sport's navigation system is basically a $500 Garmin unit clipped to a flip-up cover on the dashboard (a bit cheesy, though it works really well; more on that in a bit). For 2009, Suzuki has introduced a new SX4 base model that gives you power windows, mirrors and locks, antilock brakes and six airbags for just under $14,000. If you want air conditioning and a stereo, the price goes up to $15,384, but that's still a shade cheaper than a similarly-equipped Toyota Yaris sedan and several shades less than a comparably-equipped Honda Fit (though a Nissan Versa with the same stuff is about $300 cheaper). But the cheap price isn't this car's only appeal. For one thing, the SX4 is cute as a bug's ear. Looking through my zoomed-out camera lens -- which makes the SX4 appear even shorter than it is -- I had to chuckle at the car's dimensions, with its tall cabin hemmed in by an abbreviated hood and trunk. It looks like something out of a cartoon -- a normal car that got squashed between a couple of semis. I drove the $16,434 Sport model, which gets racy body trim and big 17" alloy wheels (link goes to photo), giving it a sort of tough-runt-with-a-Napoleonic-complex look. I wanted to laugh but didn't, for fear that the car would kick me in the shins when I wasn't looking.

How much should I expect off on a suzuki sx4 crossover?

I am looking at new 08s. Sticker prices are in the 17k range and I keep getting 500-700 off. The selling market is bad, I am expecting at least 2k - 3k off. Am I being unreasonable. Also, if I wait until jan, would it be better?
Check with Edmunds.com for MSRP and dealer costs as well as any current incentives.
Just because the sales market is bad doesn't mean they will give it away.....

That's easy. I'd definitely go for the Suzuki. It offers All-Wheel Drive, plus comes with more standard equipment and costs less than the Honda. The Honda offers a little bit more interior room, and it gets better gas mileage, but the Suzuki looks better (in my opinion), and is supposed to be more fun to drive. It also has more horsepower and a much better warranty, plus the ability to customize it straight from the dealership. Unless you absolutely need good gas mileage, I'd go for the Suzuki. And if you are after gas mileage, look at a Volkswagen with one of their turbodiesel engines, which are good for up to 52 miles per gallon on the highway in a Beetle, far more than the Honda's 38 miles per gallon.
If you're considering these cars, look at these as well to broaden your horizon:
Chevrolet Aveo
Ford Fiesta
Hyundai Accent
Kia Rio
Nissan Versa
Scion XD
Toyota Yaris
The above models are all good competitors in this segment. If I had to narrow it down, I would say the best cars in this category would be the Suzuki, the Ford, and the Kia. They've got the most style, best option packages, and lowest prices in this category. If you're worried about reliability, the Kia and Suzuki ranked up near the top, along with the Honda and Toyota, and, while the Ford hasn't been tested that long yet, other Ford products have made a comeback in reliability (the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan tied for the most reliable vehicle in the United States for 2006 and 2007), so the Fiesta should be a safe bet. I didn't list the Volkswagen turbodiesels (Beetle, Jetta, Rabbit) I mentioned above because they're in a higher price/size category with cars like the Ford Focus, Honda Civic, and Toyota Corolla.
