A. Check for voltage drops along both positive and negative legs of the circuit. You'll need a simple $15 multimeter for this. Your GM vehicle uses a Delco alternator. On most Delco alternators you can insert a screwdriver into a D-shaped hole in the back of the case and ground out the voltage regulator. This is called full-fielding the alternator. It bypasses the voltage regulator and forces the alternator to put out 100 percent of its capacity. Take your voltmeter - or use the one on your instrument panel, if you have one - and monitor the alternator output while you do this. In a minute or two, you should see the voltage rise steadily from 12.6 volts with the engine off to 15 to 16 volts with the engine idling. Pull out the screwdriver and the voltage should drop to 13.5 to 14.5 volts, depending on the state of battery charge and temperature. Don't let it get above 16 volts or so, but pull out the screwdriver before you fry something. If the voltage doesn't climb steadily, it's a bad alternator. If the voltage does climb, but returns to less than 13 volts, it's probably a bad regulator.

Mazda B4000 anti theft system wont allow it to start?
Mar 27, 2007 by Ron P | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I have a 99 B4000 that ran fine until recently antitheft system indicated ti did not recognize keys and would not start. Dealer has reprogrammed keys and has replaced transponder, computer & other items without sucess. Has been in shop for over 3 weeks now and dealer says they cannot figure out the problem. I can't take it to a different repair shop as Mazda requires only dealers to reprogram the system. If anyone has ANY ideas. The vehicle is in great shape, has 142000 miles but if it wont start it's worthless? Do I have any other options? Next closest dealer is 40 miles away & I'd have to have it towed.
It is the anti theft system - dashboard lights as well as dealer codes indicate that is the problem, but they cannot find solution. The truck will turn over but will not start - cant sell, trade, etc if it will not start.
If the security light comes on on the dashboard, you have got an anti-theft issue. If not, either the bulb for the anti-theft is out, or the problem lies elsewhere. You could have a fuel pump fuse, relay, or the actual pump out (especially if you have run on "E" a lot or have left the truck parked for months). You could have a problem with the starter (or starter solenoid, or switch) if the engine doesn't spin at all. Your "Mazda" pickup is actually a re-badged Ford Ranger (and, in your case, a V6). Try a Ford Dealership.
Try selling it and buying a Tacoma or a Frontier.

Will Ford Ranger aftermarket headlights fit a Mazda B4000?
Mar 26, 2008 by tofumaster2003 | Posted in Mazda
I'm looking to replace my current stock 1999 Mazda B4000 headlight lenses, but no one makes them for Mazda, only Ford. Several people have told me they will fit, but I just want to know before I pay for them.
Yes. Its the exact same truck.

how to remove a shift lever from a Mazda B4000 4WD?
Aug 16, 2008 by Jesirae P | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I have a Mazda B4000 4WD. I am trying to remove the gear shift to get to the transmission, but there is a retainer studd that is stuck. It is at the bottom of the gear shift and I cannot figure out how to get it out. Is there a special tool or trick that can help me with this? Any help would be awesome, this is driving me crazy! Thanks,
