The RMZ-4 is the top among four grades, also including Base, Premium and Sport models. Equators, which are based on the Nissan Frontier platform, are available in Extended Cab and Crew Cab (with short or long bed) configurations.

The Equator RMZ-4 base price, "well equipped," is $28,550 and, with destination charges, totals $29,325. The only substantive option is the Sport package, which adds just more than $2,000.

All Equator models boast youthful appeal, and beg to used for weekend adventures that are more adrenaline-pumping than my trips to the storage unit. Suzuki's goal of building rugged pickups with "no excess fat" is to fill the demands of the Equator's active-lifestyle target buyer.

Gene Brown, Suzuki vice president of marketing and public relations, said Suzuki's mission in building the Equator centers around motorcycles - the products for which Suzuki is best known.

"Suzuki motorcycle brand awareness is more than 80 percent in the U.S., reflected in some 1,000,000-plus motorcycle and ATV sales," said Brown. "There is a powerful connection between our motorcycle audience and the truck market."
