We are torn: we could buy a new Passat wagon with 0% financing or we could buy a Jetta Sportwagen TDI, which does not come with a 0% financing option and costs about the same as the entry level Passats. Saving money never hurts, right? But we know (and hope) that gas won't stay cheap forever and that the TDI has a great resale value. We don't put many miles on our one car--a 6 year old Jetta Wagon just hit 52k. What's a family to do?

This is the dim light. If you know what type of bulb to use it would be helpful. We don't have the owners manual.

What's wrong with my turn signals--2000 Volkswagen Passat Wagon?

I have a 2000 Volkswagen Passat Wagon (GLX Model), and the turn signals intermittently don't flash. Sometimes they do/sometimes they just light up but don't "blink"--either in the dashboard or on the outside of the car . . . Does anyone have any suggestions about what could be wrong and how to go about having it fixed?
The turn signal flasher relay is part of the emergency flasher switch. A very common failure but I am not aware of a recall on them. Replace the emergency flasher switch and you should be good to go.

The car is a v6 with under 50,000 miles.
The bad part about getting a good price for your car at a dealership is that they're gonna come back with a "number" that should be satisfactory because they have to top off/replace fluids, change, balance, and mount new tires, and then go through some 100+ point inspection. In truth, they will put your car out there and make a SUPER profit on it, because you knew the same thing they did; it's quite a valuable asset.
Going the newspaper route leaves people in the dark. They don't know much information about the car unless what is stipulated in the ad or by what you tell them over the phone. That and newspaper ads get expensive with all the "look at me" details and number of words/characters.
Posting online is the way to go, since we're all on the 'Net. The ad gets more coverage since people will travel for a good deal, no limit on words/characters, you can add pictures, and you can include the VIN# so they can do a CARFAX report on the car. Most dealers won't let you see a CARFAX on the car and will tell you "it's all good."
